Ozery’s Pita Break is a Canadian food company that specializes in producing healthy breads and lavash crackers. Just recently, they launched a new product called Crispy Pitas. When I was contacted to try these pita chips, I had to do some research on their nutritional value before agreeing. I wanted to see if this was a product I could recommend to my own clients and yes, I would definitely recommend this product to anyone looking for a healthy way to satisfy their potato chip cravings. Crispy Pitas are free of artificial preservatives and they contain no trans fat and at least 50% less fat than regular potato chips. Also, every flavour contains 6 grams of protein and 2 to 4 grams of fibre per serving and three of the four flavours contain 10 to 16 grams of whole grains per serving. Now, let us move on to the next important aspect of a good snack after nutrition… the taste.
Organic Wheat - This and the Cranberry Pumpkin Seed (see below) were my favourite flavours! I did not expect this flavour to be my favourite since I normally hate plain flavours, but this was not plain-tasting! It had a very nice “oven-toasted” taste and it was perfectly seasoned with sea salt. Also, it was the most thinly rolled out chip and it had the lightest texture of all the four flavours.
Organic Spelt with Flax – To me, this was the heartiest pita chip. The spelt with the flax seeds added a slight nutty taste. Even though it was hearty and slightly nutty-tasting, I think that this flavour was the most “plain”. Of all the flavours, I think that this flavour would taste best with a healthy dip (i.e. hummus, baba ghanoush).
Rosemary Garlic – This was my second favourite flavour. However, when I let family and friends try all the flavours as well, this was everyone’s hands-down favourite! The rosemary was more prominent than the garlic, but there was a nice balance between the two flavours. This was very tasty on its own (no dip was required).
Cranberry Pumpkin Seed – As mentioned earlier, this was tied with theOrganic Wheatfor my favourite flavour! Loved this! If you have a sweet tooth, you will love this too! It was lightly sweetened (so I could still taste the actual pita). Also, the pumpkin seeds added a slight nutty taste and crunch. As for the cranberry bits, they just added a nice extra touch of sweetness. The cinnamon flavour was quite subtle, yet still detectable. Yum!
If you live in Canada and would like to buy some to try, you can search here for your nearest retailer. Let me know which flavour is your favourite! I have also tried their Organic Whole Wheat Lavash Cracker, which tastes amazing with hummus by the way! Their Multi-Grain 100-Calorie OneBun has been recommended to me by colleagues, so that is next on my list of things to try (especially with barbecue season right around the corner). Anyways, happy healthy snacking everyone!
xox,
Adeline
