Joel and Dana from Well Preserved host these monthly “Home Ec” get-togethers at The Avro. Every month, there is a different food theme and each guest brings a food item according to that theme. Well, this last month’s theme was “no cook”. When my fellow Nutritionist friend, Suzanne Ng, and I heard about this, we immediately thought of preparing raw vegan dishes and got excited! Here is what we ended up bringing…

I made raw vegan chocolate pudding. The main ingredient was avocado, but no one could detect it! I will post the recipe later this week.

It was a hit and I am happy guests went home with healthy monounsaturated fats, potassium, B vitamins, and fibre in their belly! ![]()

Suzanne made her Detox Salad. It contained carrots, daikon, apple cider vinegar, wakame seaweed, scallions, lemon juice, grape seed oil, and coconut sugar. It was SO good!

Suzanne let me take home a container of her Detox Salad and I had it as a healthy midnight snack when I got home. Yes, it was THAT good.
Here are some of the other “no-cook” foods that other guests brought…

Fresh peaches with bourbon whipped cream. Those peaches were so sweet and juicy on their own. Love peach season!

Coleslaw with a Creole kick. It contained cabbage, onion, carrot, Creole spice, and a secret sauce (that consisted of buttermilk, cider vinegar, salt, and pepper). Love the individual serving cups! Very cute.

Oreo cheesecake. As a Nutritionist who is lactose-intolerant, this was a big no-no, but I am sure it was darn good!

Build-your-own thimble cookies with four different homemade jams/jellies (violet jelly, chocolate-raspberry jam, tequila sunrise jelly, and blueberry-basil jam). How neat! Okay, so this was considered a “no-cook” food item, because it was baked and not cooked. I love it when someone finds a loophole, ha ha!

The Avro’s bartender, Emily, makes a new custom cocktail for each “Home Ec” event. For this event, she came up with a Master Cleanse cocktail. It had everything found in the Master Cleanse drink (lemon juice, maple syrup, and cayenne powder) with a shot or two of vodka, I believe. I have a feeling more people would try the Master Cleanse if this was the drink!
All in all, it was a fun night with great people and good conversations. I can’t wait until the next one, which should be quite soon! I have no idea what the next theme will be, but that night, we were discussing a dehydrated food theme for the next event. If that is indeed the next theme, maybe I will finally start using my dehydrator, which has been sitting in its box since last year! Whatever the next theme is, I will be sure to share with you what I and other guests decide to bring. In the meantime, look out for my raw vegan chocolate pudding recipe coming up next!

Great review of a great evening…it was such a treat – loved everyone’s no cook dishes and the master cleanse was truly refreshing….looking forward to seeing you at the next event.
Hi Kelly!
I can’t wait until the next event and I’m so excited to see what everyone will bring. I’m crossing my fingers for a dish with crickets, so I can check eating crickets off my bucket list hahaa. I’ve been told next theme is fruit! Ideas are churning…
